Stopping Federal Overreach

President Biden and his Administration have made a constant habit of sidestepping Congress, the People's House, to enact their radical agenda—costing the American people billions of their hard-earned dollars.

In year one, this administration finalized more than $200 billion in new regulatory costs. Even worse, in 2022, the administration proposed more than $1 trillion in new regulations.

This week, the House passed H.R. 277, the REINS Act, which would curb extreme executive overreach by requiring the House and Senate to approve any major rule before it would go into effect.

Protecting Consumer Choice

The House also passed H.R. 1640, the Save Our Gas Stoves Act. You may be curious why such a bill is necessary, and you are not alone.

The Biden Department of Energy has issued a proposed rule that would impose more stringent standards on the use of conventional cooking products, such as natural gas stoves.

96% of the stove models that the Department of Energy tested failed to meet the proposed standard. If implemented, this rulemaking would impact the majority of gas stoves on the market—causing significant market distortions and increasing costs for consumers.

That's why I proudly co-sponsored and voted in support of H.R. 1640, which would ensure the Secretary of Energy does not implement an energy standard on cooking appliances that would reduce consumer choice or cause a product to go off the market due to its fuel consumption.

Americans Deserve a Secure Border

I recently penned an op-ed in the Augusta Chronicle about much-needed legislation passed by House Republicans to secure our border.

There is an unprecedented national security and humanitarian crisis unfolding along our southern border, and the open border policies championed under the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats have caused this disaster.

2023 Congressional App Challenge

I launched the 2023 Congressional App Challenge this week for middle and high school students in Georgia's 12th District. This nationwide event allows students to compete with their peers by creating a software application, or "app," for web, PC, tablet, mobile, or other platform of their choice.

2023 Fall Internship Program

REMINDER: My office is now accepting applications for the 2023 Fall Internship Program to be offered in my Washington, D.C. and Augusta offices.

This program is open to college students and young professionals interested in learning about the legislative process and assisting with the responsibilities of a congressional office. Interns will perform a range of tasks including constituent outreach, legislative writing, and more, with the possibility of earning school credit. All applications are due by Friday, June 30.

"Examining the Policies and Priorities of the Department of Health and Human Services"

Democrats continue to make regulatory and statutory changes that weaken employer-sponsored healthcare coverage. I pressed HHS Secretary Xavier Beccera about the need for competition in the market to improve the quality of care and lower healthcare costs for consumers.

Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development Hearing

"Postsecondary Innovation: Preparing Today's Students for Tomorrow's Opportunities"

During the hearing, I highlighted the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University which has led the way in medical school innovation through the creation of an accelerated medical school curriculum, known as the MCG 3+ program. This program creates individualized medical education tracts for undergraduate students to prepare them more quickly with the competencies they need for the MD program.

Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Hearing

"Oversight of FERC: Adhering to a Mission of Affordable and Reliable Energy for America"

Georga-12 is home to the first new nuclear reactor units being built in the U.S. in more than three decades. Georgia's energy regulatory structure values reliability and holds utilities accountable for keeping the lights on. I asked our witnesses about the need for all states to focus on building and investing in reliable assets like nuclear energy.

Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Field Hearing

"Enhancing America's Grid Security and Resilience"

I traveled to Pinehurst, North Carolina where I participated in a field hearing to examine the physical and cybersecurity considerations for the electric grid. I also toured a Duke Energy substation that was the victim of a cyber attack in December that left 45,000 homes and businesses without power for five days.
