Friend,
Mayor Adams’ extreme budget cuts are the biggest flop of the summer. His proposed cuts would slash over 2 billion dollars in crucial public services and institutions – like public schools, housing agencies, libraries, elder care services, workforce development and more.
We need investment in what makes our communities actually safer – not extreme budget measures that leave New Yorkers behind. We demand a People’s Budget: Tell Mayor Adams to fund #CareNotCuts so our communities can thrive.
That’s why on Friday night we showed up to Mayor Adams’ fundraiser to spread the news that his budget plan will defund essential services that help New Yorkers thrive.
At Mayor Adams’ fundraiser, we passed out playbills that spell out exactly what’s at stake in the budget:
$1 billion cut from the Dept. of Education and $560+ million from 3-K early education and childcare services
$60 million cut from CUNY
$141 million cut from housing services and 247 housing jobs lost
$36 million from public libraries and $24 million from adult literacy initiatives
This is only a taste of what the Mayor’s budget will cut, but the full scope of his austerity budget will be most felt by low-income Black and brown New Yorkers who rely on the City’s social safety net.
The People’s Budget is the answer to austerity. Our budget plan envisions each borough, district, and block as safe and stable places for every resident. We need investments in programs and services that directly aid New Yorkers and make this vision a reality.
Tell Mayor Adams to stop extreme cuts and invest in safer, healthier communities with the People’s Budget!
Until we win,
The NYCC team
