“DeSantis anti-immigration law takes effect in Florida”
John – Ron DeSantis’ new anti-immigration law is an inhumane attack on millions of undocumented Floridians.
Let’s call this law what it really is: a fascist political stunt, aimed at criminalizing and vilifying our immigrant brothers and sisters so DeSantis can convince voters that he’s the most anti-immigrant Republican in the presidential primary field.
I won’t sit back while fascists continue to attack and use vulnerable communities as political pawns across Florida. Instead, I promise to fight for humane, bold immigration reform in Congress that uplifts these communities. But I need your grassroots support to keep me there. Can you chip in $27 so I can continue pushing back on the GOP’s xenophobic attacks? >>
John – The impacts of this law will be felt everywhere and will be devastating to undocumented Floridians, innocent families, and Florida’s entire economy.
Here’s just some of what DeSantis’ xenophobic law includes:
- It would require hospitals to ask about patients’ immigration status,
- It expands penalties for businesses and employers with 25 or more employees for knowingly hiring undocumented workers– completely halting all work on farms and construction sites because workers are scared of being deported.
- And it increases state funding to $12 million for relocation and bussing migrants to other parts of the country, which would separate families and children from their parents.
Immigrants are the backbone of Florida and this country. We should be uplifting these communities, but instead, Ron DeSantis is choosing to tear these communities apart.
And this is especially personal to my family and me. My abuela and mom came to this country from Cuba during the freedom flights in the late 1960s. My abuela had to work three factory jobs, making $1.00 an hour to feed her family and keep a roof over their heads.
Immigrants, like my family, come to this country for a chance at a better life – to escape violence, authoritarianism, and persecution. Now, that's what they’re facing in Ron DeSantis’ Florida, but we’re not going to let his fascism win.
I’ll always fight for our undocumented brothers and sisters. But I’m up against an anti-immigrant majority who won’t hesitate to attack immigrant families like mine, so I’m counting on your support to keep me in the fight.
Can I count on you to chip in $27 to support my campaign? I’m still $7,831 short of my weekly goal, and every dollar holds the xenophobes a bit further off >>
Together,
Maxwell Frost
