When I first ran for office, I spent lots of time knocking on doors and
meeting voters in every corner of my state Senate district. We spent hours
putting up yard signs in my neighbors’ front yards, and I tried to shake
the hand of every voter in my community.

Flash forward to today: I’m now running in my first statewide election,
and it’s certainly a larger campaign operation than we had back then.

Nowadays, I am traveling across California, introducing myself to millions
of new voters and explaining why I’m running for the United States Senate.
And yes, I’m still trying to shake every hand I possibly can (some things
never change).

John, we’re
working to build the largest grassroots movement California has ever seen
— but to do that takes significant resources.
