Happy Father’s Day, team!

A lot of folks tell me I’m just like my father… and I tell them, “I hope you’re right!”

My dad, James, is a wonderful, dedicated, wise, kind, and compassionate man. He’s always ready with a little wisdom or a clever observation. But as quick as he is with a word of advice, he’s also always eager to lend an ear or a helping hand.

He’s taught me that often, you get more out of listening than talking; that it’s okay to not understand everything, as long as we’re willing to learn; and that our actions make us who we are, not our words.

My dad is my original supporter, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without his guidance and love. The lessons he’s taught me have made me a better mom to Alex, a more effective public servant, and most of all, a more compassionate, understanding person. I’ll carry those lessons with me on every step of this journey.

Here’s to celebrating all of the great fathers and father figures in our lives today. Happy Father’s Day from my family to yours!
