Father's Day can be a very difficult time for many of us and my heart goes out to anyone who might be struggling today.

I wanted to say happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there.
Being a Black father in Congress, and a Black father in America, we have often been much maligned. There are pernicious stories about Black fathers not being good fathers or Black men not being good people that have honestly hurt me through much of my life — because being a father is probably the most important thing that I am in this world.
One of the things about being an elected official and a public figure is that I get to share how I'm feeling about this with you all, and I hope you share back too. When we lean on each other we can become better as a community and as a people.
To dads out there, I uplift you, see you, and thank you. And to everybody, have a great weekend and I hope you spend some time with those you love.
