John,
I’m wishing all my fellow dads a very happy Father’s Day. Being a father to my amazing daughter, Abeni, is one of my greatest joys, and I’m lucky to watch her grow every day.
Abeni is 12 going on 16, as I like to joke, and we try to spend some time together every afternoon, either at our local Starbucks or TCBY. Now that I’m running for Congress, I use those moments to bond and share with her why I’m taking this step – I want to ensure Abeni and every child in America is able to grow free from the threat of violence, and safe to thrive to become the best version of themselves.
My father, Bill, was a career Air Force non-commissioned officer and a major influence on my decision to pursue service above self in every step of my career. I carry the lessons he taught me as I mature as a father and raise my own daughter.
To all the fathers and father figures, I hope that you’re able to enjoy time with your loved ones on this day of celebration and appreciation.
Happy Father’s Day,
Brian
