As Iran rapidly works toward a nuclear weapons capability, it is financing terrorism across the Middle East, arming Putin with drones and missiles to kill Ukrainians, and committing horrendous human rights violations against its own people.
Just this month, the regime unveiled a new hypersonic missile that it boasted can hit Tel Aviv just 400 seconds after launch. Along with its terror proxies Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and other terrorists in the West Bank, the Islamic Republic of Iran remains resolute in its goal to destroy the Jewish state.
This week, reports in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal also indicated that the United States is in discussions with Iran to give it access to billions of dollars in frozen accounts in return for an apparent Iranian promise not to advance its nuclear program further and the release of hostages.
Congress must have full transparency into any agreement or understanding with Iran. Providing resources to Iran only makes it more dangerous, and America must step up diplomatic and economic pressure on Iran and remain prepared to take all necessary steps, including strengthening support for our ally Israel, until Iran truly ends its quest for nuclear weapons and stops its regional aggression.
AIPAC is working with Congress on a broad range of legislation that will help do just that — by strengthening ballistic missile sanctions on Iran as U.N. missile sanctions are set to expire in October, cracking down on Iran’s oil exports to countries like China, and working together with our closest allies to impose multilateral sanctions on Iran if it continues to advance its nuclear program.
