John,
This Father’s Day and with Juneteenth coming up tomorrow, let’s celebrate Black fathers.
I want to lift up Black Men Build, an organization for Black men to heal together, to transform, and to be in service to their communities and all Black People.
Local chapters across the country (including in my home city of Detroit!) run regular days of service like clothing drives and free meal distribution, mentorship sessions with high school boys around civic engagement, and Black Men’s Circles for vulnerable conversations.
Phil Agnew, a community activist and one of the organization’s co-founders, has talked about observing right-wing movements trying to recruit Black men and spread misinformation. He wants to push back against attempts to further entrench sexism and misogyny—and instead support men who find strength in love and who can fight back against patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy.
This Father’s Day, please donate to Black Men Build to celebrate Black fathers and men who are fighting the patriarchy and helping to create a society where communities have everything that they need.
I’m passionate about the world that Black Men Build is trying to create, with clean water, healthcare, education, and housing for all—where living a dignified life is not based on our ability to work and produce. We all deserve to live in freedom and with dignity.
Toward freedom,
Rashida Tlaib
