At every turn, the Republican party lead by Donald Trump is undercutting our right to affordable and accessible health care--that is why House Democrats are fighting back! Last week, I was proud to join these efforts by leading a resolution that expressed disapproval of the Trump Administration’s illegal Medicaid block grant plan, a plan inviting states to cap and slash the Medicaid program.
These block grants that Republicans champion are just the latest in a slew of attempts by this Administration to gut the Affordable Care Act—and the numerous coverage expansions that it has offered to millions of Americans, of all ages and backgrounds, who were unable to gain affordable coverage before—and the millions more who could gain coverage if my home state of Texas expands Medicaid.
That is why I am proud of this resolution that affirms our Democratic majority’s strong opposition to removing the expanded protections that the Affordable Care Act has provided. Because health care is right, not a privilege.
