With the economy hanging in the balance, the federal government narrowly averted disaster by striking a deal on raising the debt ceiling. But we should never have come so close to the deadline.

After the debt ceiling deal was passed and signed into law, far-right Republican members decided to throw a temper tantrum and stop the House of Representatives from functioning.
That’s just childish.
Now, folks — imagine a scenario in which Sarah Palin had won the last election and had become Alaska’s voice in the U.S. House. Palin would be LEADING the effort to bring the people’s House to a halt.
We’re committed to making sure that never happens. Our work in Alaska to elect fair, just, and committed leaders will benefit the entire country. And as Alaska becomes an undeniably purple state, we will send a message to the GOP that their brand of extremism will not be tolerated.
