Before we close out the weekend, we wanted to update you on where things stand in the race for CA-49. Mike has been hard at work (as usual), but our campaign is beginning to face some serious headwinds.
Here’s the latest:
- Mike is already being hit with attack ads by the House Republicans’ campaign arm. The NRCC recently launched an early "ad blitz" targeting the "most vulnerable" Democrats in the country. Mike was one of their targets.
- Democrats are being out-raised at the national level. Kevin McCarthy and his allies quietly raised over $10 million in the first quarter of this year. That’s an alarming sum this early, and we know they plan to use it in CA-49 to unseat Mike.
- Two new GOP opponents have entered the race. Mike has already drawn two Republican challengers – one of which is a known self-funder who election watchers are calling Mike’s first “credible threat.”
The 2024 election cycle is going to pose some unique challenges for us. Mike is, without a doubt, the most vulnerable House Democrat in California. That’s why it’s important that we continue to show grassroots strength.
