John,
Tomorrow is Father’s Day, and I’m feeling grateful for my father Errol Bush, who made sure my siblings and I grew up learning about Black history and Black role models who challenged the status quo.
Growing up, I knocked on doors with my father as he ran for office, and I watched him be elected alderman and then mayor of our community in St. Louis County. As a public servant, my father also participated in protests where he put his body on the line for racial justice.
When speaking at my 2018 campaign launch to serve in the House of Representatives, he remarked about the momentum we activists had built as part of the Ferguson Uprising.
The Ferguson Uprising was a pivotal point in the centuries-long struggle for Black liberation in our country, and it transformed what we thought was possible for our communities. I bring that transformative vision to my service in Congress.
This weekend, while celebrating Juneteenth and the ongoing struggle for freedom, I’m renewing the push for reparations for Black people in the United States.
Chip in today to help us carry on the struggle for Black liberation and racial justice.
DONATE TODAY
During my time in Congress, I’ve put forward policies to invest in Black communities and address generations of trauma in the face of white supremacy and state violence.
I’m still the same Cori who rose up with my community in response to the police killing of Michael Brown, coming together in the tradition of our ancestors who’ve pushed for a better world.
In the Ferguson Uprising, Black people took to the streets to express outrage, grief, and frustration with a system that was never designed for us. We stood against years of injustice and racial inequality, and we found that together, we have the power to bring about the change our lives depend on.
Throughout my life, I have personally experienced trauma and systemic racism in education, in healthcare, in housing, at work, and at the hands (and boots) of police. I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet, and I carry that urgency with me in Congress as I refuse to accept the status quo.
Can you donate today to help grow our movement for collective liberation? Together, let’s keep demanding the change that we deserve.
