Dear John,

We are about a week away from the end of session, and votes in the Senate on two critical public health bills in our priority Toxic Free Bills Package–the Toxic Free Cosmetics bill (SB 546) and Toxic Free Kids Modernization bill (HB 3043)–are scheduled for Tuesday. There are just a few days left for us to act. Will you write to your state senator today urging them to vote YES on these bills? [[link removed]]

- The lotions, make-up, and other cosmetic products we use every day contain many chemicals known to be hazardous to our health, such as formaldehyde (a well-known carcinogen), lead, and arsenic. The Toxic Free Cosmetics bill (SB 546) requires cosmetic manufacturers to disclose all chemical ingredients in their products on their company websites as an accessible way for consumers to make educated purchasing decisions. It would also regulate or prohibit the sale of the worst classes of chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products.

- The Toxic Free Kids Modernization bill (HB 3043) passed the House with bipartisan support earlier this month. It’s now waiting for a vote in the Senate to modernize Oregon’s Toxic Free Kids program to be in line with what science today tells us we need. A modernized Toxic Free Kids program would allow our health authorities to regulate classes of harmful chemicals. Children are far more vulnerable to toxic chemicals than adults, which is why it’s so scary that thousands of chemicals lurk in products our kids use every day.

Please email your state senator right away in support of the Toxic Free Cosmetics bill (SB 546) and Toxic Free Kids Modernization bill (HB 3043)! [[link removed]] We need to do everything we can to make sure that our lawmakers put the health of our communities first.

I hope you’ll join us and help protect all Oregonians from toxic chemicals.
