Hello Friends, This weekend is Father’s Day, a time to appreciate and thank all the dads and father figures in our lives. On this day and every day, I’ll be thinking of my father, Malcolm, who inspired my love of public service, and my husband, Brad, who has been such a wonderful dad to our two sons.
|
My dad was a World War II veteran and Prisoner of War.
|
To all the dads and father figures in New Hampshire and across the country, Happy Father’s Day!

I will always defend the rights of patients and their health care providers.
|
This week in Washington, I spoke against my Republican colleagues' effort to insert the federal government into personal and private medical decisions between patients, their families, and health care providers. Their proposed provision would withhold critical funding for children’s hospitals that provide gender-affirming care, putting the well-being of millions of children in jeopardy and villainizing patients.
In the “Live Free or Die” state, we believe in less government interference in our personal, private lives.
|
Medical decisions should be made between patients, families, and their providers.
|
The federal government should not politicize what care doctors and nurses can provide their patients. I’ll keep working to strengthen our health care system and push back on attempts to politicize doctors and weaponize federal funding for hospitals.

When we invest in our rural communities, our entire state thrives.
|
Also, this week, I introduced legislation to reauthorize and expand the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). The NBRC is a partnership between the federal government and states to strengthen economic growth and development in many of our rural communities in New Hampshire.
Each year, the NBRC provides federal funds for economic and community development projects throughout New Hampshire and all across the northeast. By reauthorizing the NBRC and expanding its scope to include rural health care, we can invest in the future success of our state and ensure everyone has the support they need to thrive.

Granite Staters – especially our younger generation – deserve to know the health risks associated with e-cigarette use.
This week, I sent a letter urging the FDA to educate consumers about the potential dangers of e-cigarettes and ensure they have the information they need to protect their health.

Every life lost to overdose is a tragedy - we need to utilize every resource we have to end the substance use crisis and save lives.
As the founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force, I was proud to introduce legislation to ensure naloxone, an opioid-overdose reversal medication, is affordable and accessible for communities in New Hampshire and across the country.

Thank you to all the New Hampshire vendors and small businesses who came to Washington!
|
It was terrific to attend Experience New Hampshire in the Capitol this week! From award-winning maple producers to our one-of-a-kind outdoor recreation scene, New Hampshire is home to some of the best small businesses, industries, and opportunities in the country. Thank you to the New Hampshire State Society and Senator Jeanne Shaheen for hosting another spectacular event - it was great to celebrate all that the Granite State has to offer.

We must never forget the lives we have lost to gun violence.
|
Seven years ago this week, 49 people were killed at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. It was one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.
Bigotry, hatred, and violence have no place in our communities. We must honor the lives we have lost and recommit ourselves to ending the epidemic of gun violence in our country.
