Dear John

In case you missed it, we recently launched a new campaign calling on the government to unleash the potential of rooftop solar across the country - find out more about the campaign and how you can be a part of it on our website.

At CPRE, we're pleased to have enjoyed many campaigns successes and wins over the years. Last week, we were delighted that our #40by50 hedgerow campaign picked up first prize at The Charity Awards - scroll down to find out more.

Every year at the beginning of June, we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, and this year has been no exception. Whether you currently volunteer for CPRE or have done in the past, we want to thank you for all you’ve done to support our work. Read on to find out which volunteers received an award this year!

Last month, 4,675 of you participated in Hedgelife Help Out as part of the Big Help Out to mark the King’s coronation. We’re delighted so many of you volunteered to check in on the health of our hedges - find out more about how you can keep involved below.

With the summer upon us, nature is busy and we're fast approaching the longest day of the year. Read on to find out what wildlife you might be able to encounter on walks in your local countryside or green space.

Help us kick start a rooftop revolution

New research shows that installing solar panels on new builds, commercial buildings and car parks can deliver at least 60% of the solar energy we need. A rooftop-first approach to solar is a common sense solution that will help cut carbon emissions and reduce energy bills all while protecting our precious countryside. Support our call for a rooftop revolution by signing our petition.

CPRE’s hedgerow campaign wins top prize at 2023 Charity Awards

We’re delighted to announce that our campaign calling on the government to increase the hedgerow network by 40% by 2050 was awarded first prize in the 'Animals and Environment' category at the 2023 Charity Awards. The Charity Awards shortlist is chosen by an independent panel of expert judges, themselves all eminent figures in the charity sector.

Celebrating Volunteers' Week

To mark this year's Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), we’ve been celebrating all of our fantastic volunteers who power our movement and make the countryside a better place to live, work and enjoy. Each year our local groups nominate a selection of truly exceptional volunteers for an award. Check out this year's award winners below and watch a special video message from CPRE CEO, Roger Mortlock.

Hedgelife Help Out

Thanks to everyone who took part in Hedgelife Help Out in May as part of the Big Help Out! We were delighted with how people took hedgerows to their hearts and we received 4,675 survey responses. We’re compiling the results to build a picture of the health of our nation’s hedgerows - more on that soon! In the meantime, find out more about how you can help the countryside through volunteering on our website.

Wildlife to watch out for in June

During June, we celebrate the longest day of the year with over 16 hours of daylight in parts of England such as Cornwall. Now is also the time you might be able to spot swifts in our skies and flowers such as orchids in our green spaces. Nature writer Alexandra Pearce-Broomhead shares more about the wildlife you might encounter this month.

Be a part of our success

Together, we’ve achieved some great victories for our precious green spaces. Now, we have even bigger plans with our new rooftop solar campaign. Could you help us ramp up our efforts at this critical moment by setting up a regular gift today? We have the evidence to prove that a rooftop revolution is both possible and necessary to protect our countryside. But we need your help to turn this vision into a reality.

Best wishes,

Cat
