John, I strongly support the federal legalization of cannabis. So I have to ask:
Do you think cannabis should be legalized?
A lot of folks in the Democratic Party wouldn't be bold enough to admit that, but I'm a firm believer that marijuana justice is racial justice. For decades, marijuana laws have been used as weapons against Black and brown communities – and now, too many of them have records or are in prison for something that is fully legal in 22 states.
This is unacceptable. We need to push the Democratic Party in the direction of rescheduling and legalizing cannabis – and I have experience doing just that.
As co-chair of the Cannabis Caucus in the House, I have fought tirelessly to legalize marijuana and get records of cannabis-related charges expunged. I've been on the drafting committee both during this last election and when President Obama was in office and managed to get in provisions on decriminalizing marijuana but was stonewalled by others in my party to stop before legalization.
So, while states like California have already taken action to legalize marijuana, I think it's far past time that we finish the job. That's why the federal legalization of cannabis is a part of my Senate campaign platform, but I'd like to know your stance on this important issue. So please, tell me before 11:59 p.m. tonight:
Do you think cannabis should be legalized?

And once you finish responding, would you consider chipping in $5 to my campaign so I can bring my fight for cannabis legalization to the Senate?
Thank you for your support.
– Barbara
