Friend, This week marked the 15th anniversary of the Flood of 2008. Though the “Epic Surge” may be gone, the memories of the flood are still fresh for Iowans. As a journalist, I covered the flood and saw the damage, fear, and pain firsthand. I visited with Iowans who had no idea if their homes or family businesses would survive. Through the devastation, the resilience of Iowans was evident – we relied on our faith, and on each other, and we came back stronger. Since the flood, we have made great strides in flood resiliency through private-public partnerships and investments, rural and urban conservation efforts, and flood mitigation projects. There is more to do to build upon these efforts. That's why I introduced the bipartisan Flood Resiliency and Land Stewardship Act, legislation that will expand prevention measures and ensure communities can secure the resources to protect themselves from flooding. As we marked this anniversary, I was reminded while we can’t control the weather, we can control our preparedness. I will continue working across the aisle to improve flood mitigation and protect our communities from flooding. Best, Happy Father's Day! We'll be celebrating amazing dads and grandfathers this weekend on Father's Day. I wanted to take this opportunity to recognize my incredible husband, Matt. I couldn't imagine a better father to our two boys and we're grateful for you every single day! The Red Tape Reduction Act The Biden Administration has emboldened an unconstitutional fourth branch of government – a branch of unelected bureaucrats creating costly regulations and subverting the will of people to ram through an unpopular agenda. That's why I introduced the Red Tape Reduction Act. This bill will revive five deregulatory executive orders, and ensure that for every one regulation issued by an Executive Department or agency, at least two must be eliminated. When it comes to government regulation, we should be thinking about subtraction, not addition. This legislation is an important first step to increase transparency and eliminate bureaucracy for the benefit of taxpayers. Learn more HERE. Fighting the Gas Stoves Ban The Biden Administration's push to ban gas stoves is absurd. They want to control every aspect of your life – from the kind of car you drive to how you cook dinner for your family. This week, I voted to stop the Biden Administration's proposed ban on gas stoves. I will keep fighting to bring Iowa common sense to DC and pushing back on the Biden Administration’s unchecked bureaucracy and big government control. Countering the CCP's Continued Aggression I joined Fox Business to discuss the need to hold the CCP accountable for their increased military aggression. We must bolster our U.S. military readiness and ensure our fighting force remains the best in the world. Watch the interview here. Take My Priorities Poll Your feedback helps me best serve you! Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and Eastern Iowa Airport I loved catching up with my good friends from the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and the Eastern Iowa Airport this week. Our region has so much to be proud of and I appreciate all they do to keep Eastern Iowa a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Headline Highlights KGAN: Iowa Rep.
