In 2018, West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin spent $8.9 million – not including super PAC money – to win another term in the Senate. Sen. Manchin won by 3.3%; former President Trump would win West Virginia two years later by 39%.
Sen. Manchin eked out his 2018 win because of the decades of goodwill he’d built up around the state and because he vastly outspent his Republican opponent. Everyone in conservative politics – and on the other side of the aisle, for that matter, thinks they know what Manchin’s next move will be. Will he run, or won’t he? That’s the $9 million question.
While Sen. Manchin has not publicly announced his intention to seek a 4th term in the Senate (he’s waiting until December), his allies say it’s “crazy to count him out” at this point.
They’re right. New polling featured two hypothetical matchups – one between Manchin and Rep. Alex Mooney and the other between Manchin and Governor Jim Justice. The results from the two surveys couldn’t have been clearer: the only West Virginia Republican who can beat Democrat Joe Manchin is Governor Jim Justice.
We cannot leave anything to chance, Friend. If we sit on the sidelines and don’t do our part to help Jim Justice NOW, I’m afraid winning the West Virginia Senate seat is no sure bet.
