Here are some updates from today and yesterday.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that an August special election set up by the Legislature can happen as scheduled. The election is for a measure that would make it harder for voters to amend the state constitution.

Alabama officials told a federal court that lawmakers intend to enact a new congressional map by July 21. This follows the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Allen v. Milligan affirming that the state needs a second majority-Black district to comply with the VRA.

Tennessee Reps. Justin Jones (D) of Nashville and Justin Pearson (D) of Memphis won their respective primaries for Aug. 3 special elections to the state House. Both representatives had been expelled by Republicans in April after joining protestors at the state capitol calling for gun safety legislation.

Here’s what to expect coming up.

On Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue an order list announcing some of the cases it will hear. We're watching to see if the Court takes a redistricting case from Ohio or a felony disenfranchisement case from Mississippi.

Also on Tuesday, there will be a hearing in a Florida case on whether the statewide voter registration application violates the National Voter Registration Act. The defendants are asking the court to dismiss the case.
