President Trump released his 2021 budget this week, and it breaks one of his biggest campaign pledges to voters: that he would not cut Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare.

He promised, "I'm not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican, and I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid."

But his budget proposal slashes Medicaid by $920 billion – on top of cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

Cuts to healthcare and retirement security are not the end of the story here, John. Proposed cuts include:

$181 billion in cuts to the food stamp program
An 8% cut to education funding
A 26% cut to Environmental Protection Agency funding
A 15% cut to housing program funding

In 2017, the GOP passed their tax cuts for the rich, adding $2 trillion to the deficit. Now, they are looking to pay for those tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires by slashing social services. While the rich get richer, Connecticut families are left scrambling to make ends meet.
