KSGOP Friday File Make A Donation CLICK HERE Happy Fathers Day Guest Column By Gabe Brown, Chairman Mike Brown’s Father Father’s Day, 2023 Mike, As Father’s Day will soon be upon us, I began thinking about the life I chose and the happiness that came with God granting your mother and me two healthy baby boys. As very young parents, we matured together and faced the challenges every young family faces daily. We watched you both grow into adults and proud young men, and I find it difficult to express the happiness and joy you and your brother have brought to my life. I am grateful for every moment we’ve shared. With the blessing of God, it is my wish and hope that there will be many, many more. I remember Saturdays spending all day at a school gym watching you and your brother in wrestling tournaments and especially you begging for permission to wrestle an undefeated and unscored upon 300lb opponent. At the same time, you weighed in at 185 lbs. I first said, “Absolutely not,” but with you and your coach imploring approval, I agreed. You scored a point in the first few seconds of that match, and your opponent was furious and turned you into a pretzel. Regardless, you walked off that mat to the applause of a packed high school gymnasium. You were proud - but no prouder than me, your father. I have many beautiful memories especially recalling the joy of hunting, teaching gun safety, motorcycle riding, working on cars, teaching mechanics, watching both of you excel in sports, and attending college while always showing respect to others. You and your brother were fearless, fun-loving, and always at the front of the line, ready for a new challenge whenever, wherever found. Wonderful memories for me. To this very day, I enjoy watching and hearing of the successes and paths each of you have chosen for your life and business, including the relentless effort shown to not only succeed and excel at those goals but still work at being the best husbands, fathers, sons, and friends possible. Happy Father's Day. Keep up the great work. From your proud father of two excellent men. Dad Lawsuit Settlement Update From KSGOP Counsel and Chairman My Fellow Kansas Republicans, I am pleased to provide an update on the pending litigation against the KSGOP. As you all are aware, there was an ongoing lawsuit regarding a direct mail piece sent by the KSGOP during the 2020 election cycle. Chairman Brown, outside counsel Joshua Ney, and I were able to meet with the Tubbesing’s and their counsel last week. I am thrilled to report that a settlement has been reached. I believe this to be a tremendous outcome. As you all know, the ongoing action could have presented a significant financial risk to the party and its officers, as well as an ongoing financial commitment by the KSGOP. Prior to the new chair taking over, our party had already spent in excess of $35,000. We anticipated that continuing forward would easily reach six figures. Please also note that the first round of the district court's rulings were adverse to the party. This resolution represents, in my opinion, a best-case scenario. I would like to thank Chairman Brown for leading the negotiations, and I would like to thank outside counsel Joshua Ney for briefing this matter and his assistance with ensuring this favorable outcome. With the efforts of these two individuals this settlement would not be possible. This is a big win for all of us, and I look forward to getting Republicans elected in 2023. Thank you, Chris Chris McGowne Principal McGowne Law Offices, P.A. # # # # # Valued Kansas Republicans, The KSGOP would like to first and foremost issue a sincere and heartfelt apology to Mr. and Mrs. Tubbesing for the mailer, which included their names, sent during the 2020 election cycle. The mailer was an error in judgment, starting an unnecessarily long and expensive legal process. I am pleased to rectify the situation as the Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party. We thank Kevin and Dawn Tubbesing for their willingness to agree to a monetary settlement that we hope adequately compensates them for the difficulty this lawsuit has presented. I want to assure the Tubbesings’, as well as Republicans throughout Kansas, we will never let a situation like this happen again while I am the Chairman. This situation should never have reached this point, and we are happy this case has been resolved. Our Party can and will now turn its full attention to ensuring the election of Republican leadership across this great state. Respectfully, Mike Brown, Chairman Kansas Republican Party Summary: This unnecessary litigation resulted in legal costs to the KSGOP of over $35,000 to date. There was also an unknown maximum legal representation expense to go forward depending on how far the issue was appealed plus damages, if any. Under the advice of legal counsel, we settled at an apology plus $15,000 which is far less than the Tubbesing’s legal bill. This ongoing litigation had a personal risk for Republican State Committee/Executive Committee members. For those of you who are not an attorney, like me, this means those members could have each been financially legally responsible for a share of this liability as the KSGOP is not incorporated. To be clear, this matter is now settled and the lawsuit is over. Additionally, the long overdue process to incorporate the Kansas Republican Party is now underway. In short, all of this is a huge win for KSGOP and I am proud to have led our Party to this outcome. More to come on this topic. Important Note from Kansas Insurance Commissioner, Vicki Schmidt Earlier today, I shared with Kansas Insurance Department staff that during a routine mammogram, my doctor ordered a biopsy of an area of concern and that test revealed that I have breast cancer. In the coming weeks, I will undergo treatment at the University of Kansas Cancer Center to remove and treat the cancer. I expect to make a full recovery. As Insurance Commissioner and a pharmacist, I have often played a supporting role in many Kansans' fight against cancer. Now that I am on the other side, their stories, their determination and their strength are the foundation on which I face this fight. I am grateful for the incredible medical team caring for me as well as the love and support of my husband, Mike. (Send prayers for Mike! I'm not a very good patient.) I will continue work at the Kansas Insurance Department with the support of the best staff around and operations will not be interrupted. I am encouraged by the support of my friends and family, but what I ask is that you schedule your yearly mammogram or encourage the women in your life to do so. While uncomfortable, awkward and let's be honest, painful, I am proof this preventative procedure can save lives. And as always, if you have an issue with insurance, I hope you will call the Department to assist! ~Vicki Schmidt Please join me in praying for the commissioner, her full and quick recovery, and for her family at this challenging time. All Kansas Republicans are pulling for you, Vicki! ~Mike Brown, Chairman Kansas Republican Party Numinar Management Platform Training Sign Up The Numinar Data Management System training is underway, and the system is receiving rave reviews from users across the state. [email protected] Facts and Figures Sleepy Joe Biden’s Failed Presidency After a sleepy start to his 2024 campaign, this weekend in Philadelphia, Joe Biden is campaigning to “finish the job.” What you need to know: If Americans let Biden finish the job: Inflation will continue to run rampant; Crime will continue to rise; Our border will remain open and deadly fentanyl will continue to seep into our communities; Children will continue to be left behind by failing schools; Americans will be worse off under Democrats' big government overreach. 78% of Americans believe things in this country are headed in the wrong direction and 59% disapprove of the way Biden is handling his job according to a recent AP-NORC poll. In Biden’s America, real wages are down, incomes are down, and savings are down. Two years ago, Biden and his administration promised inflation would be "temporary." Americans have lost over $10,000 on average paying for the increased cost of living since Biden took office. In Biden’s America, we are dependent on foreign oil and energy. Since day one in office, Joe Biden has waged a war on American energy. Biden signed an executive order halting construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, killing 11,000 U.S. jobs – many of them union jobs. Biden issued a moratorium on new oil and gas permits on federal lands. Biden rejoined the disastrous Paris Climate Agreement which economists estimate could cost millions of jobs over the next decade. Under Biden’s leadership, all 50 states have recorded their highest average gas prices ever. Gas still costs over $1 more per gallon than when Biden took office. High energy prices are the point of Biden’s policies. In Biden’s America, we have a broken southern border. More than 6.6 million illegal immigrants including "gotaways" have crossed the border since Biden took office. Homeland Security Investigations estimates that Mexican cartels are now making $13 billion a year smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S., 26 times what they made in 2018. Since Biden took office, over 19 tons of deadly fentanyl has been crossed at the southern border. That’s over 8.6 billion lethal doses of fentanyl, enough to kill every person on the planet. In Biden’s America, students and parents are taking a back seat to far-left teachers union bosses. Elementary school children are being inundated with sexual content. Biden’s Department of Justice is labeling concerned and involved parents as “domestic terrorists ”. National test results in elementary school math and reading have plummeted to levels we have not seen in more than two decades. In Biden’s America, crime is rampant in our streets. 9 major cities recorded record homicide numbers in 2022. While crime rose and fentanyl poured across our border, Democrats still called to defund the police and refuse to support law enforcement. In Biden’s America, Democrats are out of step with most Americans on abortion. Democrats support: Taxpayer funded abortion; Zero abortion restrictions; Minor children getting abortions without parental consent; Gender-selective abortion; Abortion up to the date of birth. The bottom line: Joe Biden has not delivered for the American people. We cannot afford four more years of Biden and his policies. Republicans offer a bright alternative and are working hard to deliver for the American people. Bidenflation Takes A Toll On Americans’ Finances Working class Americans, small business owners, and families are all suffering in the Biden economy. What you need to know: May’s Consumer Price Index soared by 4% compared to last year, remaining excessively high and well above the Fed's average target of 2%. Core consumer prices – excluding food and energy – rose by 5.3% compared to last year. With persistent inflation eating away at wage gains, more and more Americans are struggling financially. Real average weekly earnings fell 0.7% since last year, marking the 26th month in a row under Biden in which inflation has outpaced wages. Real weekly wages have fallen every month since Biden and Democrats passed their wasteful $1.9 trillion "stimulus." Americans are poorer today thanks to Biden. 61% of workers report living paycheck-to-paycheck. Many Americans report that they have had to reduce their savings to make ends meet and have delayed purchases or swapped to cheaper alternatives. America’s outlook on retirement is now at an 11-year low, with 1 in 4 Americans cutting back on retirement savings. Nearly 25 million Americans are behind on their credit cards, auto loans, or personal loans – a number not seen since 2009. Credit card balances are now at an all-time high. American families are seeing higher prices for virtually everything, and they know exactly who to blame: Biden and Democrats. Just 33% of Americans approve of Biden's handling of the economy, according to an AP-NORC. 74% of Americans describe the current state of the economy as poor/fair and 64% say things in the country are on the wrong track, according to an Economist/YouGov poll. 83% of Americans say the economic situation is negative and almost 80 percent say that Biden’s policies have not helped them, according to the latest Fox News survey. Roughly half of Americans say their financial situation is worsening while only 37% of Americans approve of Biden's handling of inflation, according to a recent Harvard/Harris poll. Republican-led states are the ones creating jobs and leading the economic recovery. The latest state jobs report shows that eight of the top 10 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began are led by Republican governors, and all 10 states have Republican-controlled legislatures. Out of the top 16 states with the lowest unemployment rates, 13 are led by Republican governors. 16 states have hit new record low unemployment rates – 11 of which have Republican governors and 13 have Republican-controlled legislatures. The bottom line: The numbers don’t lie and the contrast in leadership is stark – while Joe Biden creates crisis after crisis, Republican governors are creating jobs and economic opportunity. Biden’s failed agenda causes suffering for American families while Republican-led states continue to keep Americans working, children in schools, and small businesses operating. Vote Republican! Conservatively Speaking by KSGOP Chairman Mike Brown A Father’s Day Message from Chairman Mike Brown The picture in the Guest Column above is of my dad, Gabe Brown, and myself in about October 1995 while pheasant hunting. In addition to hunting, he's taught me many things, like how to be a Christian man, a dedicated father, and a successful businessman, that it's okay to use my hands and my back for work because no one can afford to pay others to do everything for them so I needed to be able to fix things myself but it's better to use my brain when I can, that no matter what happens, simply doing all I can and never quitting will get me through the challenges of life and help me achieve my goals just fine, that when I'm mad it's better to step back and see the whole picture before I say something I can't take back, but mostly he showed me that I can be serious, make money and be a businessman too but still be funny, laugh with friends, buy a round or pay for lunch even when it's not my turn, and to always have a good time. Indeed, Pops, always have a good time. Happy Fathers Day, Dad...
