Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted were joined by Tony Coder of the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Director Lori Criss to discuss the Social Media Parental Notification Act and other mental health priorities in the state budget.

?The evidence is building that social media platforms can have a negative impact on kids? mental health and well-being,? said Governor DeWine. ?In addition, social media platforms can expose kids to predators who want to exploit them. ?If teens must get parental consent when they see an R-rated movie because of exposure to inappropriate content, it only makes sense that parents give kids permission to have social media accounts.?

The?Social Media Parental Notification Act [ [link removed] ], included in the Executive Version of the State Operating Budget and championed by Lt. Governor Husted, aims to help protect Ohio?s children from dangers online that can lead to mental health issues.?

?The Surgeon General and children?s health experts have concluded that these platforms are responsible for negative physical and mental health outcomes for a generation of our children and it is our responsibility to protect them by holding social media companies accountable for the consequences of what happens on their platforms,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Requiring social media companies to get parental approval before children under 16 have access to these addictive platforms is one way we can help parents protect their children.?

Lt. Governor Husted, Director of the Governor?s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT), announced?_Ohio?s Electric Vehicle (EV) Workforce Strategy [ [link removed] ]_, which is a strategic plan created to strengthen and build Ohio?s advanced manufacturing workforce, specific to electric vehicles. The strategy was developed in collaboration with industry partners, employers, education and training organizations, and community partners across Ohio to identify, and find solutions for, workforce gaps in the industry.

?We have developed this strategy to build the workforce we need to support the EV and advanced manufacturing industries and secure these businesses and jobs in Ohio for the future,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?As we look to the future, every economic sector must have a workforce strategy and we want the EV and advanced manufacturing sectors to know Ohio is ready for you to grow.?

DeWine visits Buckeye Boys State
DeWine visits Buckeye Girls State

Governor Mike DeWine spoke to young men and women who have completed their junior year of high school and served as delegates at the American Legion Buckeye Boys State and the American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State. Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State provide hands-on learning experiences about the operation of city, county, and state government in Ohio.

First Lady Fran DeWine supported the launch of Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Storytime in the Parks [ [link removed] ].?This series of events will be hosted in state parks all around Ohio through a partnership with the ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft, the State Library of Ohio, and local libraries.
?
Storytime in the Parks events pair librarians who read stories to participants with naturalists who carry out the theme of the story with hands-on, interactive programming. This year?s themes include fossils, birds of prey, amphibians, hiking, reptiles, animal track identification, pond and creek exploration, and tree identification.
?
?We want every Ohio child under the age of 5 to receive a free book in the mail once a month through Dolly Parton?s Imagination Library of Ohio,? First Lady Fran DeWine said. ?I love that ODNR is combining books with nature?through Storybook Trails and Storytime in the Parks?to encourage early childhood literacy!?

Governor DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources(ODNR) Director Mary Mertz visited Shawnee State Park in West Portsmouth to tour the park's History Center, Nature Center, and the new Shawnee Riverfront Campground.?

Lt. Governor Husted, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources ? Division of Wildlife and the InnovateOhio Platform, announced the launch of four new fishing tools on the DataOhio Portal. [ [link removed] ]

At the ?Where to Fish on Ohio?s Free Fishing Days? media event, Lt. Governor Husted shared that Ohioans can now access the Where to Fish, Sport Fish Report, Angler Survey and Waterbody Report tools. These resources include interactive maps, graphs, and table surveys that allow users to customize their search based on criteria most important to them.?

?The best places to fish are usually kept secret, but not in Ohio,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?Now anglers can find out where the fish are through the DataOhio Portal that provides data-driven guidance on the best fishing opportunities across the state. This tool is designed to take you where the fishing is the best, but figuring out how to catch them is still on you.??

Ohio BUILDS Water Infrastructure Round 4

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced the state will award $114 million in grant awards [ [link removed] ]to support 70 critical water infrastructure projects in 58 counties. The grants are part of the fourth round of the Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) water infrastructure program.?

"Ohio is the heart of opportunity, and for our state to continue to thrive, we must ensure that more communities have steady access to reliable, clean water," said Governor DeWine. "My administration is committed to supporting as many local communities as possible with water projects that will improve quality of life and give residents more opportunities to live up to their God-given potential."

?Good infrastructure is vital for economic development and quality of life,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?With these additional projects, we?re able to expand our infrastructure to support development for businesses and housing for Ohioans.?
