Dear John,

I'm excited to announce the Governor has signed H.B. 3765 into law ensuring that Texas kids in foster care will no longer be given a trash bag for their possessions, but instead will receive a bag of their own.

This simple bill will have a powerful impact, helping provide children with the dignity and sense of worth they deserve. I want to thank Hallie Lively with Bags of Love for her passionate advocacy — watch her tell her story at the 1:10:00 mark.

You can read more about H.B. 3765 here and stay tuned for a bag drive to support this legislation in August. We will send out a wish list as well as collect donations at our Capitol and district offices as we get closer to the end of summer.

This is just the beginning. We know the child welfare system in Texas needs more funding and critical reform to ensure our foster kids get the support and services they need. I'm committed to continuing that fight and welcome any ideas or suggestions.
