Welcome to our June newsletter!

June is a busy month, as we celebrate Flag Day, Father's Day, the Juneteenth Holiday, the first day of Summer and our many projects in the Macomb County Clerk's Office.

Please see the feature below where we hosted the Macomb County Clerks in a focus group event. That led us to having a legislative roundtable meeting with our Senators and State Rep?s to illustrate the concerns of the implementation of the recently-passed Proposal 2022-2. That proposal requires your local clerk to provide a minimum of nine days of early voting for federal and state elections.

I also made an appearance on Clinton Township Trustee Tammy T. Patton's "Talking with Tammy T" program on CTTV (Clinton Township Television) and was able to share some good information about our "Fraud Notify'' land records alert system. CLICK HERE [ [link removed] ] to see the entire segment.

Also, a hit and run driver crashed into our Elections Building, causing some damage to one of the walls.? See the article below on how we made sure that the Elections Department was safe and secure and there was no damage or compromise of any Elections-related equipment or materials.

On the lighter side, our office was also featured in the Macomb Daily, where we helped reunite a lost 7-month-old puppy with its owner. The entire story is below.?

Finally, our latest video feature spotlights our rockin' Register of Deeds staff, who are happy to DEED YOU. Please see the link below to join the fun!

"Clerk Hosts Proposal 2022-2 Elections Roundtable Events During June"

Macomb County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini hosted a local clerk focus group event and a legislative roundtable meeting addressing implementation of the recently-passed Proposal 2022-2, that requires local clerks to provide a minimum of nine days of early voting for federal and state elections. The meetings received bi-partisan attendance from Macomb County?s State Senators, State Representatives, local municipal clerks and top level State Department staff.

?By getting everyone together, we were able to address the top concerns and impacts on our local election clerks and share these concerns with the folks making the laws,? said Clerk Forlini. ?We?re closer to getting everyone on the same page.?

Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie and State Department of Elections Director Jonathon Brater listened to the concerns of local clerks, answered questions and helped clarify important implementation procedures during the Local Clerks Focus Group.?

Our local clerks? biggest concerns with implementing Prop. 22-2 were funding nine extra days of voting, administration processes, additional canvassing time needed, and giving more precinct location options. To think that they need to work 9 consecutive days, which includes two Sundays, then have them conduct an exhausting election day is asking a bit much of our local clerks.

The Legislative event matched up Macomb County State Senators and State Representatives with their respective Local Clerks included an overview of Proposal 2022-2, discussions of local clerk top concerns, potential voting center collaboration among city and townships, and finished with legislative suggestions.

?We want to make sure our local clerks have a seat at the table when legislation is being discussed regarding our elections,? said Clerk Forlini.

*"Election Department Safe and Secure After Car Crashes Into Building"*
Elections Building Damage
Elections Building Inspection

The building that houses the Macomb County Clerk?s Office Election Department suffered damage to an exterior wall and the interior lunchroom after a car crashed into the side of 32 Market Street, also known as the Clemens Center, on late Friday night, June 9, 2023 in downtown Mount Clemens.

According to Macomb County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini, ?After close inspection, there was no damage or compromise of any Elections-related equipment or materials and it was business as usual on Monday morning.?

Apparently, a car struck the building, drove away, and no one entered the building. Representatives of the Clerk?s Office immediately conducted an investigation of the premises and there was no suspicion of any tampering with election property, equipment or systems.

?We are grateful for the quick response of the Macomb County Sheriff?s Office and the Mount Clemens Fire Department,? said Clerk Forlini. ?And let?s not forget our Facilities and Operations Department, which secured the building immediately on Friday night. The good news is that the occurrence was after hours and the building was empty.??

Macomb County Information Technology assisted Clerk?s Office Deputy Register of Deeds Jennifer Walker and Chief Elections Clerk Michael Grix with assessing the election systems security.? Results of the investigation found:

* No unsuccessful or successful logins to the County election server or workstations had occurred.
* No unsuccessful or successful attempts to access the County equipment via the badge access doors.
* All systems remain safe and secure.

?As always, we?ve taken an extreme amount of caution to assure that secure elections remain the focus of our administration,? said Clerk Forlini.

"Lost puppy returned to owner after stay
at Macomb County Clerk?s Office"

*By SUSAN SMILEY* | Macomb Daily

The Macomb County Clerk?s Office had an unexpected guest earlier this week when an employee found a 7-month-old puppy wandering in the parking lot.

Jolynn Prohm was driving to work at the clerk?s office Tuesday when she spotted a little Golden Retriever puppy near Gratiot Avenue and Market Street.

?When she opened her car door, the puppy jumped right in,? said Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini.

The pup was so well taken care of and so friendly, they knew someone was missing their furry family member. The dog was not microchipped, so clerk?s office staff turned to Facebook in an effort to get the word out about the lost puppy.

?He was so good!? said Forlini. ?The Facebook post got a huge amount of shares and it turned out that the owner was in New York and his sister was babysitting the puppy in Mount Clemens and he escaped from the yard.

?A friend saw our Facebook post and contacted the owner and told him Marley was at the clerk?s office.?

The owner, Mike Longueuil of Warren, contacted his sister who came to the clerk?s office to collect the wandering canine that afternoon. When he returned from New York the next day, Longueuil took Marley to the Macomb County Clerk?s Office and thanked everyone for taking care of him for a day and for getting the word out that he had been found.

?It is a great story with a very happy ending,? said Forlini.
