Hi,

Trump-appointed judges continue to make dangerous statements from the
Supreme Court. Recently, Trump’s Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch said
COVID protections were perhaps "the greatest intrusions on civil liberties
in the peacetime history of this country."^1

Not only is this a dangerous way to characterize emergency public health
measures like vaccine mandates and temporary closures, it’s completely
ahistorical. Gorsuch wants to talk about “peacetime” breaches of civil
liberties? There are massive violations of civil rights in the history of
America during so-called peacetime: slavery, Jim Crow laws, family
separation at the border, persecution of LGBTQ+ communities, and more.

Gorsuch’s comment is yet another example of how the extreme right-wing
Supreme Court is out of step with reality and the convictions of the
American people. We must Expand the Court to make it more democratic and
representative of the opinions of a majority of Americans.

We need to restore balance to the Supreme Court and save it from
Trump-appointed extremist judges like Gorsuch.

The Constitution allows Congress to change the number of justices —
lawmakers have done so seven different times throughout American
history.^2 Adding seats to the Court is a practical, proportional response
that would allow us to stop the harm being done and restore its balance
and integrity. Additionally, setting Supreme Court term limits would be
perfectly constitutional and an important part of this effort.

In the face of an unaccountable, unrepresentative majority on the Supreme
Court determined to strip Americans of our freedoms, we need Congress to
deliver the reforms necessary to protect our democracy. That starts with
expanding the Court.
