Micaela Martinez Talks Air Pollution Inequity as Wildfire Smoke Drifts into NYC Again

Micaela Martinez was out again this week reminding us why air quality is an environmental justice issue. She explained to Amsterdam News about why environmental justice communities are more vulnerable to extreme climate events like the ongoing wildfire smoke, and spoke to NY Daily News about the inequitable impacts of the smoke on frontline workers.

The smoke from wildfires continuing to burn in Canada is expected to drift back into the city starting Friday. At this time, the air quality is not expected to be nearly as bad as it was last week, but this could change. No matter what, you can always use WE ACT's air monitor to keep track of Uptown air quality in real time.

Rallying to Stop ConEd and National Grid's Fossil Fueled Greed

We joined 350Brooklyn and other advocates at Brooklyn Borough Hall for a teach-in about our recent city and state wins and where our fight goes from here. We also called out National Grid and ConEd for trying to skirt our climate laws and hiking our utility rates to expand fossil fuels. We then demonstrated outside National Grid's office to let them know exactly how we feel about utility companies who try to raise rates on poor New Yorkers while continuing to expand fossil fuels in the middle of a climate crisis.
