Holding Secretary Mayorkas Accountable for the Border Crisis

Before Secretary Mayorkas’ appointment as Secretary of Homeland Security, our border was secure. The Trump administration had implemented Remain in Mexico, a plan that successfully kept immigrants in Mexico while their asylum claims were processed. Despite the success of this rule, Secretary Mayorkas overturned it. As a result of poor decisions like these, we've now seen five million migrant encounters at the border under the Biden administration. Hundreds of people on the terrorist watchlist have tried to cross over. And more than a million young Americans have died from fentanyl flowing across.

Secretary Mayorkas has clearly been derelict in his duty, and Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee are demanding answers for the American people. At this week's hearing, I questioned experts including the former border patrol chief. Each of them agreed that the chaos at our border is a direct result of Mayorkas’ elimination of Remain in Mexico. Watch my full remarks and their responses below.

Countering the CCP's Malign Influence

There is no denying the threat from the Chinese Communist Party is real. Their tentacles reach every corner of the globe as they continue to pull nations into their sphere of influence. Now is the time to act and address this with the seriousness it deserves.

Unfortunately, the Biden administration seems more concerned with “green” projects and social issues than applying our resources to counter the malign influence of the CCP. While China has focused on consolidating power around the world, the U.S. has prioritized:

  • A $100 billion climate fund to “help developing countries transition to clean energy and strengthen their climate resilience,”
  • Offering Palestinians $100K to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in arts and sports, and
  • A State Department grant of $20,600 for drag shows in Ecuador.

This must change. As chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I held a hearing on this issue. Click below to watch my opening remarks.

Protecting Americans from Bans and Burdensome Regulations on Gas Stoves

President Biden’s Department of Energy recently proposed a rule that would severely limit production of gas stoves, forcing Americans to switch to more expensive alternatives.

Natural gas stoves are used by nearly 40% of American households due to their reliability and affordability. Yet President Biden and the extreme left continue prioritizing their radical energy policies without accounting for the added burdens this will bring to Americans

I won't stand for this administration's continued overreach and desired control over which cooktop appliances Americans use within the walls of their own home. This week, I voted in favor of the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act and the Save Our Gas Stoves Act to keep the administration from imposing such far-reaching policies. Click here to read more.
