John,
Didn’t Kevin McCarthy get what he wanted out of his debt ceiling hostage-taking―caps and cuts to critical services that will hurt working people, children, and families? And wasn’t all that because he was worried about the deficit?
Just this week, the House Ways and Means Committee passed a tax package that hands billions of dollars in tax breaks to private equity firms, hugely profitable billion-dollar corporations, the richest 1%, and foreign investors.1,2,3
While conservatives in the House claim these tax handouts would cost just $80 billion, they would actually cost more than $1 trillion if made permanent―which is their ultimate goal.4
Adding these costs partially on top of the $3.5 trillion cost of extending the expiring Trump tax cuts and the total combined cost is over $4 trillion―with those tax cuts heavily benefiting those who are already doing phenomenally well: the ultra-wealthy, billion-dollar corporations, and foreign investors.5
Instead of more tax cuts for the rich and powerful, Congress should be investing in children, families, and people with low incomes. For example, when Congress passed the now-expired expanded Child Tax Credit, it reached the lowest income families with monthly payments worth $250 per child, reducing child poverty by 46%.
With a vote on the Republican tax package expected soon in the House, send a message to your representative now and urge them to vote no on any legislation that hands billions of dollars in tax handouts to the wealthy and billion-dollar corporations.

How do House Republicans plan to pay for their $1 trillion tax package? By revoking critical green energy tax credits included in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, which are meant to help communities transition away from dirty, polluting fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources to combat climate change.
First, House Republicans took our economy hostage over demands for caps and cuts to critical services. Now they want to pass a tax package that hands billions of dollars to the wealthy and corporations.
Click here to send a message to your representative today and demand they vote NO on a Republican tax package that hands billions of dollars to the wealthy while starving critical services of needed funds.
Together, we’re fighting back against policies that put wealthy campaign contributors ahead of vulnerable communities.
