** More than 70% of US adults oppose using religious beliefs as a reason to discriminate against LGBTQ people
------------------------------------------------------------
A new report from the Williams Institute in collaboration with NORC at the University of Chicago ([link removed]) finds a large majority of Americans oppose denying medical care, employment, and business services to LGBTQ people based on religious beliefs.

Specifically, more than 84% of adults oppose allowing medical professionals to deny health care to an LGBTQ person based on their religious beliefs. Nearly three-quarters oppose allowing employers to deny employment to LGTBQ individuals (74%) and businesses to refuse to serve LGBTQ people (71%) based on religious beliefs.

Notably, a large percentage of religious adults opposed discrimination based on religious beliefs, including those who frequently attend religious services.

Despite decades of progress on LGBTQ rights in many countries, from decriminalization to recognition of same-sex marriage, sexual and gender minorities are increasingly under threat. This comes at a time inclusive democracy around the world is in regression.

According to Freedom House, more than three out of four people in the world live in a country that has some restrictions on freedom – the highest proportion for more than 25 years.
