Dear John,

I hope you have been able to stay safe and indoors as much as possible this week! Please make sure you and your families are taking the precautions needed to stay safe and healthy as our air quality improves.

More resources on how to safely navigate poor air quality can be found on airnow.gov.

I’m glad to be writing to you today with a more exciting update! On Monday, I was cleared to fly and headed back to DC for votes. Given that we were back in DC for the week, I thought I would share a little bit about two bills I introduced.

The first one is the Naloxone Affordability Act, a bill which would expand access to naloxone, a medicine that is used to reverse opioid overdoses and prevent overdose deaths. The opioid crisis is costing American lives every day – and we’ve got to invest in the tools we need to prevent additional suffering and work to expand addiction treatment and resources to the communities that need them most. That’s what this bill will help do – and I’ll be working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get this one across the finish line.

Yesterday, I helped reintroduce the Right to Contraception Act, which aims to protect access to contraceptives – like birth control pills, IUDs and condoms. To me, the idea that we have to introduce a bill to protect birth control access in 2023 is shocking and disappointing, but the attacks on reproductive freedoms have given us no choice. Every woman – no matter what state she lives in – deserves to make her own decisions about her own future.

I will always stand up for our fundamental rights and freedoms.

Here's what else I was up to this week:

Meeting with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

We know that when Minnesota’s local businesses are strong, Minnesota’s economy is strong. Thank you to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce who stopped by this week to talk about how we can work together to support our businesses.

Honoring Minnesota's Environmental Leaders

This week, I was proud to join the League of Conservation Voters in honoring Conservation Minnesota for all they do to build a safer, healthier future for the next generation of Minnesotans. It’s their hard work and dedication that makes me proud to call Minnesota home.

Meeting with Minnesota High School Students
I got the chance to meet with Minnesota students representing the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association yesterday and hear more about the important roles electric cooperatives play in their communities. Thank you for the great discussion!

Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:

Here is this week’s ankle update for all of you: a knee scooter has made its way to DC – and to the House Floor!

And with that, I’ll wrap up my update. Have a great weekend.

Until next time,
