#LowcountryFirst Pass In Review | June 16, 2023 Passing Bills! Hello and happy Friday! Back in DC for another busy week of votes and meetings. Let’s fill y’all in on what we have been up to: We kicked off the week by joining in on the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948 at The Pentagon. As the first female to graduate from The Citadel, we met another female first - Major Shaye Haver was one of the first two females to graduate from US Army Ranger School. Was also joined by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley. Some guests from the Armed Forces Retirement Home Included: Marion Marques who spent her career in the Women's Army Corps, Norma Rambow who served in the Marines as a cook after WWII at Camp Lejeune, Corrine Robinson who served as a Corpsman for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, and Hilary Rosado who served in the Army as an imagery analyst. This week, we passed five different bills. To kick off the week, we started by overturning an ATF rule which infringed on the rights of law-abiding gun owners by banning pistol braces. This ban would have made many people, including disabled veterans, into criminals overnight. We put a stop to it. Next, we passed a bill to protect gas stoves, stopping the left from making more rules which would limit choices and increase costs for average consumers. We also passed the REINS Act, which reduces confusing and costly regulations coming out of Washington, while saving American taxpayers money. We are one of the original cosponsors of this bill, the bill makes the regulatory process fairer and more transparent by requiring congressional approval for major regulations. Read more here. Lastly, we passed the Separation of Powers Act to end the left's excessive regulations which takes away our freedoms. This bill reduces the current Administration’s ability to strip hard-working Americans of their individual freedoms. We introduced the Protecting Older Americans Act alongside Senators Gillibrand, Durbin, and Graham to ban forced arbitration for older workers, read more here. Wednesday was the US Army’s birthday where we commemorate the remarkable legacy and commitment of the brave men & women who have served and continue to serve in the United States Army. Wednesday was also Flag Day, a day when we pay tribute to our nation's symbol of unity and freedom - the American flag. Let's all remember to uphold the values of liberty and justice for all.
