John, in his
campaign for President, Ron DeSantis says he wants to “Make America
Florida.”
No one knows what that means better than our local news team in Florida,
Floricua. Our on-the-ground reporters have been working around the clock
to get the facts about the far-right policies Ron DeSantis has championed
as governor, their consequences for everyday Floridians, and what a
DeSantis presidency could mean.

Ron DeSantis argues that “the free state of Florida” is thriving under his
leadership. But Floricua’s reporting shows that’s far from the truth.
Under DeSantis, Florida is:
* #1 in the US in housing unaffordability
* #2 in mass shootings
* #41 in access to healthcare
Yet instead of working to bring down housing costs, keep Floridians safe
from gun violence, or expand access to health care, DeSantis has pandered
to the GOP’s ultra-conservative base by signing dozens of extreme bills
into law.
He banned abortion after six weeks, allowed people to conceal carry guns
with no permit or training, siphoned billions of taxpayer dollars from
public schools to private and religious ones, imposed limits on how race
and sexuality can be taught in schools, and enacted several anti-LGBTQ
laws.
Plus, despite bragging that his policies are good for business, DeSantis
has used his power to retaliate against Disney — the state’s biggest
employer — for opposing his “Don’t Say Gay” law. As a result, Disney
recently canceled a $1 billion project that would have brought 2,000 jobs
to Florida.
The team at Floricua has been hard at work covering all these developments
and more, and we need them to keep it up as DeSantis ramps up his campaign
for president.

resources. Will you chip in $5 or anything you can to
support our work to hold bad actors like DeSantis accountable and bring
news coverage to communities that need it most?
