Dear Friend --
The Long Beach Airport is one of the best in the world, with its
award-winning concourse, historic terminal, and ease of travel. Now
we're modernizing the airport to make the travel experience even
better.
Last night, the City Council gave unanimous final approval to fund
Phase Two construction of our ongoing airport modernization. The
construction will start later this year and support 440 local jobs
over the three years it takes to build.
We'll be upgrading the ticketing area, restoring and rehabilitating
the terminal, and bringing rental car services indoors. We're also
adding pre-security amenities and a new ground transportation area and
other improvements.
This massive construction project comes at no cost to the General
Fund. Its price tag of more than $100 million includes a grant from
the Transportation Security Administration and revenue generated by
the Airport.
The awarded project team is made up of all-star companies,
comprised of Swinerton Builders, Corgan Associates Inc., Studio One
Eleven, and VCA Engineers, Inc.
I also want to thank Councilwoman Stacy Mungo for her ongoing
advocacy for improvements at LGB. Our airport just keeps getting
better and better. This project is part of a larger vision of ensuring
the Long Beach Airport remains a world-class airport known for ease of
use, comfortable amenities, and efficiency for both residents and
visitors alike.
Go Long Beach,
Mayor Robert Garcia
