Last week, we joined our coalition partners at People vs. Fossil Fuels for a week of action — and amidst wildfire smoke, anger, and grief, people power reminded us: our movement has never been stronger.
Drawing on the groundswell of opposition to President Biden’s recent approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Willow project, organizers across the country led 67 actions across 26 states that drew in thousands of activists. These actions centered around one clear message, directed at the Biden administration: we must end the era of fossil fuels NOW.

This nationwide week of action was just the beginning of our plan to put increasing pressure on Biden leading up to the UN Climate Ambition Summit in September.
Across the country, communities hosted demonstrations and teach-ins highlighting how each and every new fossil fuel project exacerbates the climate emergency and sacrifices Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low-income white communities.
In Washington D.C., the week of action kicked off with a large rally and sit-in outside of the White House. Activists spoke out about the administration’s approval of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in Appalachia and called on President Biden to stop the project. They were joined by political leaders, including Tennessee state representative Justin Pearson and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.
In the Midwest, frontline activists led nine different actions to protest Line 5, Enbridge’s massive oil pipeline. Bad River tribal elders spoke out about the threat that this pipeline would pose to essential fisheries, water supply, and cultural survival for Indigenous people.
And on the West Coast, over 200 activists in Portland protested Zenith Energy’s crude oil facility both in kayaks and on land:

These actions made a powerful statement and showed just how motivated our movement is to hold the Biden administration accountable for their climate promises.
