Woop-woop, that’s the sound of the police.
It would be easier to ask where Trump didn’t have classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. They were in his bedroom, his bathroom, his shower, a ballroom, a storage unit — the list goes on. We’re probably going to regret asking this question, but what was he doing? Chilling in the shower getting all pruney while he looks over nuclear secrets? Are they soggy? Does the FBI even want them back now?
In a new poll, Data for Progress finds ([link removed]) 50% of voters, including a majority of Independents, say the federal charges against Trump over his handling of classified documents are appropriate. Yeaaah, makes sense. We would consider reading classified documents as a bedtime story to your elderly guests at Mar-a-Lago an inappropriate usage.

Considering there’s a writer’s strike, at least The Arraignment Hearings are getting a spin-off reality series, “Trump Takes Miami.”

Target to no one: happy Pride!
Hoard your rainbow fanny packs and “Live Laugh Lesbian” tees because corporate pride is no longer en vogue! After the truly deranged Bud Light x Dylan Mulvaney hysteria and a steady increase in visible anti-LGBTQ+ political rhetoric, some companies have faced backlash and boycotts for celebrating Pride and selling products in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Rather than stand up to these right-wing talking heads – who are inciting literal bomb threats ([link removed]) over parades and rainbow decorations – several of our fairweather corporate friends are turning their backs on the LGBTQ+ community (as we knew they would).
In particular, Target’s decision to “adjust” its 2023 Pride collection ([link removed]) has made a lot of headlines. New Data for Progress polling finds ([link removed]) 49 percent of voters, including a majority of Democrats (78 percent) and Independents (51 percent), think Target should keep its Pride-themed merchandise and displays. Especially if they want their stores to look better than it does 11 months out of the year. Enough with the red already, honestly.

We also find a plurality (49 percent) of voters generally support corporations selling Pride merchandise, regardless of backlash. No one ever said it was a good idea to take fashion and design advice from right-wing trolls, so get into the spirit and display your pride merch!

They keep on pushing asylum policy over the borderline.
As of May 2023, restrictive immigration policy Title 42 has finally come to an end. Under Title 42, asylum seekers could be turned away at the southern border on the grounds of preventing the spread of Covid-19. No other explanation needed. But before you get too jazzed and break out the champagne, the U.S. has returned to its OG border policy, Title 8. If you think that’s much better — think again. Now, migrants who arrive at the southern border without a prescheduled appointment can’t reenter the United States for five years. That’s the entire run of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
The U.S. government is urging migrants to enter lawfully; however, it’s harder to get an appointment with U.S. immigration than it is to get Eras tour tickets. If you think the Ticketmaster website is bad, try applying for asylum through the CBP One mobile app. It was created by the U.S. government, so that should give you a good sense of its functionality.
Despite the quite frankly brutal (out here) policy, Data for Progress finds 55 percent of voters believe the government should allow people to apply for asylum by presenting themselves at the southern border. This includes 77 percent of Democrats, 55 percent of Independents, and 34 percent of Republicans.

You shouldn’t need to be a verified fan to apply for asylum. What do migrants need to do? Identify three stop signs to prove they’re not a robot and sing the National Anthem backwards? Let them appear at the southern border and give the CBP One help desk workers a break.
