Hey --

For the past month, I called on our nation's leaders to perform their duty, follow their oath, and do what's right for our country. I won't pretend it was an easy process -- it wasn't designed to be. Impeachment of the president is one of the most difficult things our country can go through, and it must always be the last course of action, never the first.

And before too much time passes, I wanted to take a minute and share some of my reflections on the trial. But before I do, I need to say: THANK YOU. Throughout this process, you've had my back every step of the way. Whether you sent an email, signed a petition, or shared words of encouragement online, your feedback has been incredibly meaningful to me.

So before reading the rest of my email, I would love for you to stand with me once more:

Our Founders recognized the failings of all people. So they designed a system to ensure that the ideas and principles enshrined in our Constitution would always be greater than any one person. It is the idea that no one is above the law -- and I will never stop fighting to protect that belief.

Our democracy only works if people stand up and fight for it. We will get through this -- but only if we work together. Can I count on you to stand with me in this vital work to protect our democracy from today through Election Day 2020?

More than our words, our choices -- and actions -- will show the world who we really are, and what type of leaders we will be. They will also show our friends around the globe what type of nation we will be. History will be the final judge of what happens next.

I am confident that we will emerge from this chapter in our nation's history stronger than ever, friend. However, national Republicans are using my duty to do what's right to try and target this campaign. With the next election just around the corner, we will once again have the opportunity to turn the page and change the course of our future for the better.

With much gratitude,

Jason
