John,
Prevention is often far easier than a cure, and military bases are no exception. Where U.S. bases have been established, they have led to more wars. The solution is not even more U.S. bases. Whenever we can prevent one or more bases being built, we can save ourselves a great deal of effort trying to close them. Here are three places we're working on this approach:
1. Papua New Guinea: This country has outstanding claims for
long-overdue compensation for environmental destruction resulting from
U.S. military operations during World War II, including the debris that
still congests the coastal seaways and oceans. Papua New Guinea needs to be paid for past damage before the U.S. does more damage, much less uses this peaceful place to help start a war with China! Let's keep U.S. troops out!
2. Montenegro: With your help, John, the people of Sinjajevina have been keeping militaries out for years and are not about to let up now.
3. Norway: Let's keep U.S. bases out of this beautiful, formerly peaceful, land!
This is all just one aspect of our Close Bases campaign, which you can learn about at https://worldbeyondwar.org/bases
