John,
This is so messed up. A federal court just sided with Ajit Pai and refused to even hear an appeal in the case that would have restored net neutrality.1
The good news is that we have a plan. But we need your help to do it.
The court’s original decision created a huge opportunity by allowing states to enact their own net neutrality laws, like California already did. If we can get even one or two more states to follow suit, it will put huge pressure on Congress to restore net neutrality everywhere.
We need to raise $40,000 before the end of the month so that we can launch a campaign to fight for net neutrality in three key states. Will you chip in?
Here’s what the money is for:
-
Supporting boots on the ground organizers in key states like New York and Maryland where net neutrality legislation is starting to move, but could easily get killed or watered down by Big Cable’s lobbyists
-
Paying for mass SMS messages and emails to our hundreds of thousands of members in these states to drive phone calls, petition signatures, and meetings with state legislators
-
Crowdfunded billboards and newspaper ads to call out corrupt lawmakers who would rather take checks from Comcast and Verizon than vote for net neutrality
-
Providing “air support” and digital tools for small local and state based organizations who are fighting for an open Internet but don’t have the capacity to build their own tools
We know that this strategy works because we used it to get the strongest net neutrality protections in the country passed in California last year. And we know how much it costs.
That’s why we know we need to hit this fundraising goal. If everyone reading this email chipped in even $3, we’d have more than enough.
Will you rush a donation to fund this new effort to restore net neutrality?
For the Internet,
Evan at Fight for the Future
