Protect the Abortion Industry

The Biden Administration continues its politicization of America’s Federal agencies.  

In March, the FDA changed its rules to allow pharmacies to dispense abortion pills without a doctor’s visit, a reckless move that is dangerous to women by eliminating crucial safety standards.

This week, the Administration turned its sights on Health & Human Services (HHS) which released an NPRM (Notice of Proposed Rulemaking) regarding HIPAA enforcement.

The proposal is an effort to prevent law enforcement from obtaining critical public health information (PHI) that is vital for criminal, civil, or administrative investigations of “reproductive health care” facilities.  “Reproductive health care” includes abortion, but also contraception as well as “gender affirming care.”

What are the key issues?

While there are numerous concerns with this rules change, the most important are:

1. Preventing the collection of important medical data means abortion would no longer be considered a public health matter.

2. By concealing the data, we no longer have access to the stats that show us the negative effects of abortion.

3. The NPRM specifically defines a person as “a human being who is born alive," a total disregard for the unborn baby.

4. This NPRM ignores the Dobbs decision which legitimizes state laws. This means Federal bureaucrats would interpret and invalidate Georgia’s pro-life laws. 

5. If the rule is finalized, it would lead to a dramatic rise in unchecked criminal activity. With the prohibition of medical information release, cases of rape, incest, domestic violence, child abuse, and trafficking would be insulated from investigation and prosecution. There will be no requirement for mandatory reporting connected to the rule’s definition of “reproductive health care”.
