Last month, Senator Bernie Sanders, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell reintroduced Medicare for All in the U.S. House and Senate along with 113 House cosponsors and 14 Senate cosponsors!
Since then, we've been building a mass movement of people across the country calling on Congress to guarantee health care as a human right. Currently, we have over 70,000 signatures on our petition, but we've set a goal to reach 100,000 signatures before the petition closes tomorrow night.
So we're asking: Will you add your name to amplify our call for Congress to pass Medicare for All?
This is what we're up against when it comes to reforming our broken health care system:
Merck, the fourth-highest revenue-producing pharmaceutical company in 2022,1 would rather sue the U.S. government than negotiate prices on a small number of drugs that would help seniors and taxpayers save money.
Remember: U.S. residents pay more for prescription medicines than any other country. And the Biden Administration's drug pricing reform program, passed in the Inflation Reduction Act, has the potential to save $25 billion annually by 2031.2
Even though Medicare is limited to negotiating the prices of only a handful of drugs, Merck is not willing to negotiate despite already receiving federal subsidies. In fact, its second-best-selling drug was developed thanks to federal taxpayer funding.3
Big pharma will continue to prioritize profits over people until we step up. Medicare for All is the best — and only — solution to our broken health care system. We deserve so much better than corporate greed.
