Ohio’s Wobbly and Ongoing Path to Fair Maps [link removed]

Here are some updates from today and yesterday.

The Michigan House and Senate passed a package of eight pro-voting bills implementing large parts of Proposition 2, a ballot measure that passed with wide support by voters in November 2022. Once approved by the other chamber and signed by the governor, the bills would expand early voting, drop boxes, photo ID options to vote and more. [link removed]

The Washington Supreme Court upheld the Washington Voting Rights Act (WVRA). The court rejected a constitutional challenge to the law brought by a local Republican official. “In sum, the WVRA means exactly what it says. All Washington voters are protected from discrimination on the basis of race, color, or language minority group,” wrote Justice Mary Yu, who authored the unanimous opinion. [link removed]

It's Election Day in Tennessee! Special primaries were held in two state house districts following the expulsion of Rep. Justin Jones (D) of Nashville and Rep. Justin Pearson (D) of Memphis in April. Read more about the expulsions, which were just the latest in a long string of anti-democratic acts by Tennessee Republicans.
