Michael Brown’s murder at the hands of police woke Cori up. As an activist in the Ferguson Uprising, Cori also woke up to the realization that state and vigilante murder of Black people could be eradicated in our lifetimes if we work hard for it.

As Cori told her colleagues: "You should be on the side of folks who are woke, because we're saying no more oppression against our community... Don't let a fascist tell you what being woke means."
