John, it’s far from perfect.

But … the deal to lift the debt ceiling prevents default and contains modest restraints on spending.

Through Americans for Prosperity, YOU played a role in winning the spending cuts included in the deal.

Back in March, AFP released an Agenda to End Budget Brinksmanship ([link removed] ) and urged Congress to take a hard look at the federal government’s bad spending habits!

We need to return our country to a sustainable fiscal path.

To reinforce that policy effort, AFP also ran highly targeted digital ads in key swing districts to urge President Biden to reconsider his “no negotiation” stance. (You can view the ad here ([link removed] ) .)

Our efforts, together, built momentum for a bill that tied spending restraints to raising the debt ceiling.

While that bill passed the House, it was never taken up for a vote in the Senate. What it did do was commit lawmakers to impactful spending cuts and showed President Biden he had to walk back his wrong, "no negotiation" stance.

AFP then mobilized targeted constituents from key states, urging them to contact their elected officials to support the debt ceiling deal. We got over 25,000 letters to senators and President Biden.

We have used this debate to draw more attention to America’s need for fiscal reform. According to a recent Pew Research poll ([link removed] ) , reducing the budget deficit is a higher priority for Americans than it was last year.

So, John, what we are doing is working—so far.

We need to build on this momentum and force Washington to reform spending and return to a sustainable fiscal path.

And with the launch of the Prosperity Is Possible campaign this month, you’re doing just that.

AFP will tour the country, focusing on Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, to speak with business owners and workers about the debt-fueled overspending and federal regulations that restrict their upward mobility and stifle our economy.

Our economic failures are the result of a widespread belief by many in Washington that the government is the answer to all of our problems.

The Prosperity Is Possible ([link removed] ) campaign’s aim is to demonstrate there is a better way.

I encourage you to watch the fun video we put together ([link removed] ) to break through the online clutter and persuade everyday Americans.

Best,

—Emily
