Chuck Schumer

Friend,

Last week, millions of Americans on the East Coast could not leave their homes without breathing dangerous, smoke-filled air.

Let me be clear: This is what climate change feels like. We're all going to start experiencing disasters like this more often -- unless we take action now to stop climate change.

We passed the biggest climate action in history last year, but that was just the first step. We need to do more. Sign my petition to help raise this to the top of the Senate's agenda: Wildfire smoke is code red for our climate, and we must take action against climate change immediately.

It's important to understand exactly what happened last week.

Climate change caused much of Canada to become unusually dry and hot -- so it was a tinderbox. Wildfires quickly swept across the country, and wind currents smothered the U.S. with the smoke, from Minneapolis to D.C. to Boston. The air was dangerous to everyone, no matter how healthy they were.

It's just as important to understand this: Americans on the West Coast have been experiencing fire seasons like this for years. And across the world, billions of people breathe air like this every single day.

We know why. Climate change is getting worse -- and the big corporate interests and their backers have tried to stop all our progress to save the planet. The solution is solar panels, wind turbines, and a clean energy transformation that produces zero pollution. Senate Democrats made major progress with the Inflation Reduction Act, but we can't stop there.

We need to accelerate the clean energy transition immediately. Sign my petition to demand rapid action to fight climate change.

Onward,

Chuck Schumer
