This week, Donald Trump was arrested on 37 felony charges for mishandling classified documents and obstruction of justice.

I don’t take any glee in this indictment. The fact that a former President would steal documents about our nuclear program and refuse to give them back is astonishing.

I remember standing there in front of the Senate and warning everyone that if Trump was not held accountable, he would continue to act with reckless disregard for our country. Today those fears have become a reality. I don’t want to say I told you so.

What’s even more sad is that Republicans like Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy and Chairman Jim Jordan are still defending Trump. They’ve even weaponized our committee to do Trump’s bidding, but we cannot let them interfere in this judicial process.

We all know Trump’s playbook - he’s going to deny the allegations, claim that he’s a victim, and try to raise millions of dollars from this indictment. And his allies in Congress are going to use every tool at their disposal to attack this prosecution.

But we’re not going to let any of this distract the American people from the truth - Trump is a danger to our democracy and he can never become President again.
