Dear friend,

Ahmed* (*real name withheld) has always felt a strong connection to nature. He wanted to work closely with plants and animals, but he didn’t have the resources to pursue his dream.

Then he heard about Mercy Corps’ beekeeping training from neighbors in his Northeast Syria community. He received beehives, equipment, and support to start beekeeping and honey production.

Ahmed’s small business helps him supplement his teaching income and support his wife and three young children.

Ahead of Father’s Day, we’re taking a moment to appreciate fathers of all kinds who support their families and communities to build a brighter future for everyone.

"Bees create miracles," Ahmed says. Before receiving support from Mercy Corps, he was in danger of bankruptcy, but he didn’t give up on his dream. "I believe if you want something, you should keep trying and continue until you achieve it," he says. He adds, "Mercy Corps helped me achieve my dream."

After more than decade of conflict in Syria — compounded by the recent earthquake and skyrocketing food prices due to the war in Ukraine — more Syrians are experiencing food insecurity and limited economic opportunities.

Mercy Corps’ Livelihoods program has reached more than 53,000 individuals in Syria with food and other urgent aid, and helped strengthen long-term food security through increased crop and livestock production.

With Mercy Corps’ support, Ahmed expanded his beekeeping business from three beehives to 30 — all while pursuing his passion for nature.
Ahmed gives a taste of homemade honey to his daughter.
Every day around the world, fathers like Ahmed are doing all they can to overcome the impacts of conflict and climate change and create new pathways to opportunity. In Syria and in 40+ countries worldwide, we are working side by side with them today to ensure a better tomorrow.

Thank you for being a vital part of this important work,

The Mercy Corps team
