All across the country, local governments are advancing the most innovative policy solutions to our largest problems and creating new models of governance that work for not just the wealthy and well-connected few, but for the many. [Local Progress]([link removed]), a project of CPD, supports and connects these efforts by catalyzing and accelerating policy change at the local level while creating opportunities for collaboration across our cities. Since its founding in 2012, Local Progress has grown and expanded its work to more than 1,000 members of local elected officials located in nearly every state.
Progressive local elected officials working to pass public policy that reflects their values need support. They need to learn about policies and best practices, and they need spaces to think through how to pass them, how to build campaigns, and how to cultivate allies outside of government to create a shared strategy. That’s where Local Progress comes in –– with progressive leaders across the country engaging in shared best practices, governance training, deep partnership with community and labor organizations, strategic issue cohorts on policing and other issues, plus state and national organizing to amplify the power of their local efforts.
In telling the story of Local Progress, [The American Prospect published an excellent and detailed article]([link removed]) profiling its network of progressive local elected officials. In an election year, it’s crucial we amplify the collaborative possibilities for the transformational victories we can achieve locally and in our states in partnership with our elected officials.

Building political power and winning progressive victories requires “outside†organizing from strong community advocates and “inside†negotiation by elected officials committed to the movement, with tight coordination between the two. Local Progress is building the capacity of “inside†elected official actors, while working in deep partnership with community-based organizations, progressive unions, movement organizations, and policy advocates to strengthen connections and shared strategy.
Please help us strengthen this network of progressive elected officials by sharing the story on your social media channels!
