John,
On this day, 11 years ago, the Obama administration established the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. While we applauded this move, we must note that this achievement only happened thanks to the determined, tenacious efforts of thousands of Dreamers, immigration experts, undocumented people, and their allies. It is truly a testament to the greatness we can achieve with our collective power.
There’s still more to achieve. As we continue to fight for permanent legal protection for DACA recipients, the Biden administration has announced a new rule that would expand Medicaid and Affordable Care Act eligibility to DACA recipients. This is very welcome news: the young people in the DACA program, part of our communities and our neighbors, should have access to health coverage.
This proposed rule is especially critical because many DACA recipients experience harmful mental and physical health effects from the constant threats to their safety and temporary legal protections. Our fight for a pathway to citizenship can’t be successful without our people’s mental and physical wellness!
Add your name to urge the Biden administration and its Department of Health and Human Services to approve this new rule.
TAKE ACTION
The proposed rule is currently undergoing a public comment period, in which our voice can reinforce to the Biden administration that health care is a human right―regardless of immigration status.
This comment period ends on June 23rd. We’re joining our coalition partners at United We Dream and asking immigrants and allies to add their name in support of implementation of this new rule. The total number of supporters will be submitted in our official public comment.
Health care is a human right that should not be granted or revoked depending on your citizenship status.
Add your name to show the collective power of DACA supporters now.
Thank you for all you do to protect immigrant communities,
