John,
Part of my role here at the Innocence Project is responding to all of the emails, text messages, and letters from supporters who want to share why they donate to support our work. And I have to say, the passion of the people in this community amazes me every single day. For example, here’s a note that stuck with me recently. A donor wrote in to compare the individual cases that we work on to sirens blaring through the streets, making people everywhere pay attention to their stories and how our legal system failed these innocent people so profoundly.
This reflection was spot on — and reminds us just how much further we still have to go in our mission to end wrongful conviction.
So please, as we finalize our ambitious plans for the next fiscal year and beyond, consider making a matched donation to advance our life-changing work. All gifts before June 30 will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $75,000. In talking to our grassroots supporters, I’ve heard many powerful reasons why people choose to contribute to sustain our work.
Some are moved to get involved through a firsthand understanding of the pain that wrongful conviction causes to an individual, a family, and a community.
Others come to know our work through an individual case that caught their attention — like those of Tyrone Day, Norberto Peets, or the hundreds of other innocent people our organization has helped free through the years.
Many more realize that these individual cases point out the gaping systemic flaws in our legal system and become inspired to fight for change with us. But no matter how people came to support our work, we all have the same goal: to free the innocent and transform this system.
Together, I know that we’ll be able to keep fighting for the innocent and usher in changes to our legal system to prevent wrongful convictions in the first place.
Help us keep doing this work for years to come by making a donation. And now is a great time to chip in for the innocence movement and have your donation matched. innocenceproject.org/fy23-end/?f_src=FY23_em_06152023_gen_mat_campFY23frAMEOFY23Grassroots_fr_AM_FY23frAMEOFY23Grassroots3mo]

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
